Accidental pollution of inland and estuarine waters
Cedre Information Day, 9 March 2007, Saint-Denis-La-Plaine (Paris)
Ever since the creation of Cedre's Information Days, the topics addressed have always been related to maritime or shoreline aspects of accidental pollution. Although major spills in inland waters are less frequent and attract less media coverage than those at sea, small and medium-sized spills of oil or dangerous substances in waterways answer for a significant share of the daily requests made to our response department. Furthermore, transportation of bulk or packaged products and containers by river is constantly on the increase.
Accidental pollution of inland waters therefore seemed an interesting topic to explore, bringing together not only French actors but also foreign partners for whom this issue presents more of a national or international problem than in France.
As is the custom of these Information Days, the current situation in terms of risks, regulations and response organisation will be fully illustrated by concrete examples.
