Response in Coral Reefs

This guide presents the major aspects to be aware of and consider when dealing with oil pollution in tropical coral reef environments. It is mainly based on a literature review and on Cedre's experience of response operations in tropical environments (e.g. mangroves).

This publication, dedicated to response in coral reefs, is divided into 7 parts:
General information ("what you need to know") on coral reefs (environments and ecosystems), the pollutant (evolution, behavior and impact of different hydrocarbons on the reef) and prior definition of priorities for response;
Assessment of the situation ("what needs to be done"), in which response strategies are presented;
Evaluation and selection criteria, constraints and intervention procedures if the reef is threatened;
Evaluation and selection criteria, constraints and intervention procedures if the reef is affected;
Management of recovered waste;
Case studies and feedback;
Additional information
