The CleanAtlantic project aims to contribute to strengthening prevention, monitoring and reduction of marine litter in the Atlantic area.

 

Led by CETMAR (Spain), it started in 2017 and ended in June 2023, involved 14 partners and 4 associated partners from 5 countries: Spain, France, Ireland, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

 

Cedre's contribution consisted of:

    - marine litter assessment on beaches (North-East Atlantic),

    - identification of interesting existing initiatives to reduce marine litter,

    - potential impacts assessment of plastic cotton buds and cigarette butts on marine environment,

    - identification of marine litter accumulation areas and clean-up techniques on North-East Atlantic shoreline,

    - study of marine litter floating in North-East Atlantic ports and associated clean-up techniques identification,

    - production of operational guide on beach litter clean-up,

    - and development of two awareness-raising games on marine litter.
