Maritime crisis management training
At the request of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), Cedre travelled to the island of La Réunion to run a maritime pollution crisis management training course, in accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, from 22 to 26 April. The course was attended by most of the IOC Member States, including Madagascar, Mauritius, the Comoros as well as the Republic of Djibouti. As a stakeholder in the IOC, France was also represented by a number of government departments, including two representatives from the Prefecture for the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF), senior officers from the French Customs Service, the French Navy and the Réunion fire and rescue service (SDIS 974), as well as a representative of the Grand Port Maritime de La Réunion.
This training course was made possible thanks to financial support from the Directorate for Security and Defence Cooperation under the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE/DCSD), logistical support from the Réunion Maritime Training Academy, and contributions from the Port des Galets naval base, the Central Office for Combating Environmental and Public Health Violations (OCLAESP) under the French Ministry of the Interior, and the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
