Training on oil spill response in wind farms: partnership between Cedre and LEMS

24 to 26 February 2025

From 24 to 26 February, Cedre ran a training course at its premises in Brest on oil spill response in offshore wind farms for framework Les Éoliennes en Mer Services (LEMS). This initiative is part of an effort by LEMS, the operator of wind farms currently under construction, to prepare its teams for spill risks at sea.

Cedre designed a custom-made programme in collaboration with LEMS, combining theory and practical sessions. The theory sessions addressed the behaviour of pollutants spilt at sea and appropriate spill response strategies. To enhance this theoretical knowledge, practical exercises were carried out at Cedre's technical facilities. Discussions were also held with members of Cedre's emergency response team, who shared feedback from past spills.

This course helped to boost trainees’ skills and was the chance to explore new opportunities for supporting maritime environmental risk management.
