ANR Mic Giver project

8 July 2024

An experimental programme to assess the effectiveness of oil degradation by pre-selected fungal strains has begun at Cedre.

This experimentation, carried out under the ANR Mic Giver project and with the support of ESIAB in Brest, aims to assess the ability of fungi to grow on a substrate contaminated by different types of chemicals (oil, glyphosate, picric acid) and their potential to enhance the degradation of these chemicals through the production of surfactants.

The first phase of the project was devoted to screening 200 fungal strains, in order to identify those able to grow on the selected chemicals.

This selection phase resulted in the isolation of 8 strains, on which efficacy tests were launched in early July. These tests, conducted on different matrices (marine sediment, soil, seawater), will last 60 days, during which analyses will be carried out to assess the fungal development, the degradation of the pollutants and the appearance of surfactants within the experimental units.
