Visit from Sri Lankan maritime safety authorities

On Thursday 28 March, Cedre hosted a visit from a delegation of officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, composed of Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, Rector of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) (which is set to house Sri Lanka’s future regional maritime safety school), Commodore Aruna Weerasinghe, Director of International Relations for the Navy and Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage, Director of Training for the Navy. They were accompanied by maritime safety and security military volunteers from the French embassy in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

In addition to a presentation of Cedre's missions and facilities, this meeting was an opportunity to focus on Cedre's response on behalf of the United Nations following the sinking of the X‐Press Pearl  off the coast of Sri Lanka in 2021.
