Spill response training : practices and challenges

Under the impetus of its Strategy Committee, Cedre is organising an Information Day focusing on training practices and challenges in the field of spill response. Following an opening speech by a representative of the
International Maritime Organization, the day will be organised into three sessions. The first session will address the needs of the public authorities in charge of spill response. Speakers representing European civil protection and the onshore and maritime authorities in charge of the emergency response to marine pollution will outline the organisation of training in Europe and France. Real-life examples from France and around the globe will then be presented by speakers from different countries. The second session will offer insight into private sector training initiatives in the oil and gas industry with TotalEnergies, the offshore renewable energy sector, and more specifically the offshore wind sector, with a presentation by Ailes Marines, as well as in ports, particularly Tanger Med in Morocco. This session will draw upon the training policies and conditions in place in order to maintain and develop the resources and skills of managers and operators mobilised in the event of a spill. The final session will be devoted to cross-cutting aspects: compensation, with a presentation by the IOPC Funds, and private-public collaboration at regional scale, presented by GI WACAF. Finally, Cedre will present the perspective of training centres based on its own experience. The conferences will be held both in person and virtually, and will be interspersed with four discussion sessions with the audience. Simultaneous translation of the conferences will be provided into English and French.
