Test of a glider in the flume tank

This experiment took place from 24 to 28 July

During this month, we hosted two researchers from the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology (MIO) of the Observatory of Sciences of the Universe - Pythéas Institute of the University of Aix-Marseille (AMU) to test a glider in our flume tank. Since 2007 and within the framework of several FUI, DGCIS, ANR and EU projects, the MIO has developed a miniaturized sensor to characterize dissolved fluorescent compounds such as Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), characteristic of the soluble fraction of oil in sea water. This mini fluo UV sensor is low energy consuming and is intended to equip the "SeaExplorer" French glider of ALSEAMAR Cie. This pilot scale experiment provided an interesting valorization / demonstration of the use of such sensors for the detection of oil at sea.
